As we Draw Near to August 9...

Updated: 58 minutes ago

National Day is just around the corner. Every year when I see the flags fluttering along the streets and hear the familiar songs on the radio, something stirs quietly in my heart. Singapore has come a long way - from a small island to a nation many look up to. But more than economic progress or global recognition, I see something deeper… I see the hand of God, the grace of God, the mercy of God.

This year feels especially significant.Singapore turns 60 this year  and I wonder… what does God see when He looks at our nation today? What does He desire for us in this next season? As the nation prepares to celebrate, the Church is preparing too.  Not just for a day of worship and prayer, but for something far deeper: The Day of His Power. For me, it’s more than just an annual gathering. It’s a moment when the people of God come together to seek His face and stand in the gap for our land.

This year, my prayers feel a little heavier, but also more hopeful.  I think about the next generation. I think about the Church in Singapore. I think about how easy it is to grow comfortable… and forget that we were placed here for a purpose. Singapore was never meant to just be successful — we were called to be significant in God’s kingdom.

We are still the Antioch of Asia.  Not by title, but by obedience. So as we celebrate National Day, I also take time to bow my head. To whisper a prayer for this land I call home. To ask God to visit us again. To awaken hearts. To stir the Church. To raise worshipers, evangelists, disciple-makers, missionaries, voices of truth in every generation.

We don’t need another event. We need a move of God.

And maybe it starts small, with a quiet prayer in a room. With a heart that says, “Here I am, Lord. Use me for my nation.”

Happy birthday, Singapore. May the fire on the altar never burn out. (Lev 6:12) And may our hearts keep burning for the things that matter to His.
